Itukama, the Healthcare and Social Security Fund has granted Rs. 100 million to the Ministry of Health for carrying out Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests, the Director General of Health Services Dr.Anil Jasinghe said on Friday (May 29).
Dr. Jasinghe added that a decision has been taken to allocate another Rs.100 million to raise awareness among the public on the Covid-19 pandemic.
The media campaign ‘Itukama’ the fund-raising initiative for the Covid-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund was launched on May 13. The Covid-19 Fund was set up by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to support and strengthen activities to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and related social welfare program.
The Government on May 21 said that the Covid-19 Fund is being run under the brand name ‘Itukama’. Accordingly, the Fund was renamed ‘Itukama – Covid-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund’. The branding was carried out to attract more local and foreign benefactors.
