Over 10,000 candidates get As for all subjects

Some 10,346 of the 556,256 candidates who sat the G.C.E. O/L Examination in 2019 have secured “A” passes for all nine subjects (9As), according to the results released by the Examinations Department last week.

Department sources said 73.84 percent of candidates have qualified for the Advanced Level. Commissioner General of Examinations B. Sanath Pujitha said the pass percentage of Mathematics is significantly higher than previous year figures. About 66.82 percent of candidates have passed Mathematics, he said.

The Department sources said that 717,008 candidates faced the examination held at 4,987 centres across the island from December 2 to 12 last year. This includes 433,189 school applicants and 284,057 private applicants.

Mahinda Rajapaksa College, Homagama, has topped according to overall results.

Some 759 of 762 students who sat the examination from the school have shown exceptional results. Eighty three students have secured 9 As. Ninety one students have obtained 8As while 95 students gained 7As.

The Mahinda Rajapaksa College, Homagama, is a secondary school established on a concept of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena.
