Volleyball pool training halted

Volleyball pool training scheduled to be held in Colombo and Heiyantuduwa has been halted by the National Volleyball Federation.

 According to a senior official of the Federation, the senior men’s and women’s pool training and the under-20 men’s and women’s beach volleyball training have been stopped.

Sri Lanka was to contest several tournaments in China, South Korea and Iran which have all been put on hold due to the coronavirus.

The Asian men’s under 20 tournament was scheduled to be held from June 21 to 28 in Iran while the Asian Cup men’s volleyball championship was scheduled to be held from June 22 to 29 in Kazakhstan and the Asia Cup women’s championship scheduled to be held from August 24 to 30 in Hong Kong.

 The Asian Open men’s beach volleyball tournament was scheduled to held from April 14 to 17 in Thailand and the Asian Open women’s beach volleyball tournament scheduled to be held from April 20 to 23.

There is now uncertainty over all the listed events.(DR)
