Royal College cricketers were able to establish new records during their annual cricket encounter against Trinity College last weekend.
The score of 368 for 4 was the highest total by Royal for the entire series. Up to this match it was 336 for 8 in 1979 when Ranjan Madugalle top scored with an unbeaten 116 just before the Royal-Thomian.
Kavindu Madarasinghe’s 200 not out was also the highest individual performance for the series erasing the earlier record of 181 not out which was held by Sumithra Warnakulasuriya in 1981.
The third wicket partnership of 240 runs between Madarasinghe and Ahan Wickramasinghe (97) was the second highest partnership for any wicket between the two schools.
The highest partnership of 304 runs was established in 1981 by Warnakulasuriya (181 not out) and A Devasurendra (120 not out).
Madarasinghe became the fifth Royalist to score a double century in inter school matches. The others were CT Vangeyzel (202 vs St. Benedict’s 1920), Chulaka Amerasinghe (207 n.o vs Wesley 1983), Kamil Mishara (250 vs Ananda 2019) and Pasindu Sooriyabandara 202 n.o vs St. Mary’s Chilaw)
