Secretary of Defence, Major General (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne has assured that fulfilling a long-felt need, extra dialysis facilities, adequate medical and minor staff will be provided to the Police Hospital at Narahenpita.

The Defence Secretary visited the facility on Thursday (23) where he assured that the hospital will be upgraded soon. He made these comments at a special meeting held following his visit with Acting IGP C.D Wickramaratne and a number of other senior Police officers as well as the hospital staff.

“I observed the immediate requirement of a dialysis unit and the need to fill the vacancies in medical and minor staff. I assure you the delay in getting dialysis equipment will be cleared and will be released soon,” he said.

Gunaratne visited the wards and other sections in the hospital. He also engaged in conversation with Police officers receiving treatment.

During the visit, Major General Gunaratne said the Police Hospital will be upgraded to similar standards as the Kotalawela Defence University Hospital.

He also commended the Police and Special Task Force for their efforts to bring peace to the country and maintaining law and order during the war years.

Noting that it is the Police that has a major role in ensuring a law-abiding and disciplined country, he said the military is always prepared to assist the Police if and when required.
