Three top officials from China, Russia and the US are due to arrive in the country this week to hold high level meetings with the Government.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive tomorrow morning on a brief official visit, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is due to arrive on Tuesday morning, the Chinese and Russian missions in Colombo said.
Both will have back-to-back meetings with members of the Government to discuss a range of bilateral issues, official sources said.
The USA’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Alice Wells is also due to arrive here tomorrow as part of a regional tour. She will travel to Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan from January 13-22, the US Embassy in Colombo said yesterday.
Wells will meet senior government officials and members of civil society to discuss a range of bilateral and regional issues, including shared interests in a free and open Indo-Pacific region that fosters prosperity, democracy, justice, and human rights during her stay in Sri Lanka from January 13-14. Wells will then travel to New Delhi, India.
Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councillor Wang Yi is due to meet a number of senior leaders of the government including his Sri Lankan counterpart Dinesh Gunawardena at the Foreign Relations Ministry.
