Kandy Sports Club registered their third straight win when they routed Army SC by 64 points to 19 in a Dialog Rugby League encounter played at Nittawela yesterday.
Kandy SC won through by virtue of nine tries, one conversion and a penalty to three tries and two conversions. At half time Kandy SC led 36 points to nil.
With this crunching victory Kandy SC stamped their superiority and sounded a warning to other clubs.
Kandy SC dominated through their heady forwards who served their backs who in turn created the openings to pile on the points. They were always on the look out to go for the second phase attack.
Army SC failed to get much possession but when they did they looked dangerous but spilled the ball at crucial times. Their foreign players in centre Tomasi was impressive but close tackling by the Kandy backs stopped him on many occasions.
Kandy SC continued to dominate in the second half with well constructed moves and close tackling. Their open play looked dangerous with possession but Army SC too played a good defensive role to thrill the sparse crowd.
Scorers for Kandy SC were Buddima Piyarathne (3), Thilina Wijesinghe and Jason Dissanayake (2) each, Tarinda Ratwatte and Kavinda Perera (1) each.
Army SC’s scorers were Prabath Kumara, Lakmal Shanaka and Caqusa Rovourau (1) each.
The next game for Kandy SC will be against Police SC on December 21 at Police Park.
