The United National Front (UNF) government despite launching investigations into several high profile criminal cases failed to complete most of them, Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said at an election rally in Embilipitiya yesterday (26).
Acknowledging the government’s failure to complete investigations successfully during its tenure, he said investigations into a large number of criminal cases are yet to be completed.
The minister drew the attention of the gathering to the killings of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge and ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen and said the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s family was linked to the killings. He went on to say that Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa has admitted the former government led by his brother was involved in Wickremetunge’s killings.
