AIDEX Sports Meet on Sep 8

The AIDEX 2019 annual sports festival for amputees who are users of the Jaipur limb organised by the Colombo Friend-in-Need Society will be held this year on Sunday, September 8 at the Air Force headquarters, Rifle Green Sir Chittampalam A.Gardiner Mawatha, Colombo 2.

This year marks the 188th Anniversary of the Colombo Friend-in-Need Society and the Aidex meet has been held for the past 29 years.

The festival is much looked forward to by both the participants and the organizers and over 400 participants have sent in their applications from various parts of the country.

Among the participants are members of the Armed Forces and civilians who have undergone amputation of limbs due to civil war, traffic accidents, infections especially in diabetic patients and children born with limb defects.

The events will be worked off from 9.00 a.m. Male and female bicycle races will be held this year too. After the bicycle races are over, 64 track and field events will be worked off.

These will include the 100, 200 and 400, Putt Shot, Long Jump, Discus Throw and Archery.

The event is open free to the public and will take a carnival-like set-up according to the organisers.
