Illicit alcohol racket foiled
Officers of the Anamaduwa Police yesterday nabbed three people for producing illicit liquor. The officers also confiscated 720 drams of illicit alcohol, 9,288 drams of Goda and various other items used in the racket. According to Police, the suspects aged 38, 21 and 56 were residents of Agunapila, Kandana.
Youth shot dead in Ethimale
A 17-year-old youth with gunshot injuries was found dead in Usgoda, Ethimale on Friday. The deceased, Jagath Pushpakumara, a resident of Kota Road, Ethimale was found following a tip-off received by the police. Ethimale Police are carrying out further investigations into the incident.
Woman knocked down by train
A woman was knocked down and killed by a train in Thotagamuwa, Meetiyagoda on Friday morning. The express train was travelling from Matara to Vavuniya when the incident occurred. The victim, 87-year-old Murukkuwadura Linsi Hami was a resident of Maharuppa, Kuligoda.
Indian drowns in Hikkaduwa
An Indian tourist drowned in Hikkaduwa on Friday. The tourist who experienced some difficulties when swimming in the sea was admitted to the Karapitiya hospital in a serious condition where he passed away later in the day. The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Sri Ranga Jaglar Lakshman Ravan.
