The Mainland China located at No 8, Flower Road Colombo 3, is a famous chain of restaurants across Asia, known for their authentic Chinese dishes. It was welcome news to learn that they were launching a variety of new dishes to their existing mouthwatering spread. Here’s a firsthand review of the place.
If the ambience of the restaurant was a pointer to what one would come by it was a splendid indication to the tantilising food. I think, a brief description of the place will set the tone to what you are going to feast on. As you walk in, you are greeted by a beautiful stone wall with mandarin décor, more of a cultured centric and the tones are bright and elegant.
The welcome drink to the entrees was spot on with the crab cake topped with sweet chilli sauce and next the chicken spring roll got the ball rolling. The pan-fried chicken dumplings and the red curry prawn dumplings were with a hint of spice and lemongrass, although the spiciness didn’t carry through, this appetizer was absolutely delicious! The dumplings were soft and scrumptious, and it was the start to a lovely evening.
Next on the menu was the all time favourite, the tom yum soup. Here’s where the taste buds did not find its mark. A bit of a miss on that. But soon came a very greeny bean with sesame and dry chilli perfectly cooked with a crunch in every bite, followed by a chicken Taipei. These are tastes to lose yourself in, so compelling, that they create an almost fugue-like state. Once I start dipping into the stir fried veges with Korean sauce, chicken Thai green curry and lamb with Thai basil, out comes seafood Nasi Goreng. It’s just another dish that puts your taste buds in a tailspin.
Its perfect and electrifying flavour was in every dish. And to top it all was the delicious honey noodles for desert.
The new additions to the menu are with bolder flavours. Choose a number of different dishes on the menu so that you would be able to taste them all.
