Double standards in football tournament

30 December, 2018

Three football clubs in the Dialog Champions League made requests for postponement of their fixtures in the current football tournament that was scheduled to be completed before Christmas.

The three clubs were Ratnam SC, Solid SC and Saunders SC who had said that some of their players were sick or injured and had requested for the postponement. But the chairman of the competitions committee had refused their requests saying that the president of the FFSL had ordered that no postponements should be allowed.

Nevertheless, when New Young FC had turned up at the ground for their fixture their opponents were absent. It was then that New Young FC was told that this game was postponed.

A former president asks, if the president of FFSL Anura de Silva had given strict instructions that postponements should not be given, then how come Crystal Palace was granted postponement?

Already the standard of football in Sri Lanka has plunged to a low level and if the Competitions Committee does not have any concern about players’ fitness, how can Sri Lanka move up to a higher level in the international arena? (TBR)
