Sirikotha, the party headquarters of the United National Party had not paid its taxes to the Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Municipal Council (SJKMC) during the past two years. This came to light at the SJKMC’s monthly meeting last week. This stirred a hornet’s nest during the Budget presentation of the SJKMC for the financial year 2019.
According to the financial reports submitted before the SJKMC, Sirikotha which is at No. 400, E.W. Perera Mawatha, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte valued at Rs. 1,472,463 had not paid the tax of Rs. 371,060.68 as of December 31, 2018, to the SJKMC during 2017 and 2018. Despite several reminders they have not received any response. When contacted, the UNP General Secretary, MP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that, he will look into the matter soon.
