Sri Lanka’s Ambassador designate to Russian Federation, Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, will leave for Russia on August 31 to take up his new posting, a Foreign Ministry official said yesterday.
Dr. Jayatilleka’ s post was confirmed by President Maithripala Sirisena when the High Post Committee of the Parliament which has to approve such appointments referred it to him since there were objections by the civil society to his nomination. Along with Dr.Jayatilleka, nine ambassadors were appointed to Norway, Canada, Brazil, Sweden, Poland, Vietnam, India, Pakistan and South Africa.
Former President’s Secretary Austin Fernando has been appointed as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner designate to India. The present High Commissioner to India Chitranganee Wagiswara is scheduled to return to Sri Lanka. - MF
