Sri Lanka’s one-day captain Upul Tharanga who was the leading run scorer for his team in the recently concluded five-match one-day international series against Pakistan in the UAE continued his good form by guiding Sylhet Sixers to a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Dhaka Dynamites that comprised former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara in the opening match of the Bangladesh Premier League played at Sylhet on Saturday.
Tharanga hit an unbeaten 69 off 48 balls inclusive of five fours and two sixes and together with West Indian Andre Fletcher who scored 63 off 51 balls (5 fours, 3 sixes) put on an opening partnership of 125 to make short work of their target of 137.
Earlier, Dhaka Dynamites invited to bat first scored 136-7 with Sangakkara making a top score of 32 and West Indian Ewin Lewis 26.
