Devapathiraja College Ratgama, last year’s runner up beat defending champion Ratnawali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha by 64 runs in their first round fixture of the Under 19 Girls Division One inter school cricket tournament.
In another match of the same tournament Anula Vidyalaya beat Wadduwa Central College.
Eight teams are contesting the tournament in the first round on a league basis comprising Ratnawali, Devapathiraja, Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda, Wadduwa Central College, Princes of Wales Girls College Moratuwa, Vijayaba Secondary School Okkampitiya, Anura Vidyalaya Matara and St. Anthony’s Girls College Kandy.
Anura Vidyalaya Matara champion of the Division Two and St. Anthony’s Girls College Kandy runner up last year were promoted to the Division One tournament this year.
The top four teams in the points table after the first round will qualify for the semi finals.
