Over 110 schools contest Ball Blaster football

The much-awaited curtain raiser matches of The Ball Blaster First XI Island-wide School Championship kicked off on August 15, 2023, at the Sugathadasa Stadium organized by the Sri Lankan Schools Football Association.

In the first exhilarating match of the tournament, Zahira College clashed against Baduirya College Mawanella, resulting in a 1-0 victory for Zahira College. The second match witnessed a fierce battle between last year’s champions, St. Joseph College and Hameed Al Husseine College with the Joes winning 2-1.

The championship is divided into three categories adding to its inclusivity and reach:

1. Division 1: Featuring 20 top football schools
2. Division 2: Encompassing 80 football schools from across the island
3. Women’s Division 1: Showcasing 16 football schools from different corners of the nation

A staggering total of 116 schools are competing in over 250 matches that will unfold over the course of the next two months. This championship serves as a platform for young talents to display their skills and passion for football on a national stage.

A spokesperson for Sri Lankan Sports TV said: “As proud sponsors of this tournament our involvement extends beyond financial support. We are dedicated to elevating the stature of the Sri Lanka School Football Association’s efforts and to fostering a vibrant football culture where students can proudly exhibit their team spirit”.
