
Fulfilling a long felt need of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA), Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne laid the foundation stone for the proposed SLESA’s building at a reserved plot of land in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte earlier this week.
Gen. Gunaratne, the mainstay in outlining a land for SLESA’s new office was received by the SLESA President Maj. Gen. Upul Perera (Retd) on his arrival at the venue.
Accomplishing his pledge at the 78th anniversary ceremony of the SLESA for such an office building, the Defence Secretary laid the foundation at the auspicious time for the 10,032 Sqft two storied building complex on a unique land extent of 266 perches.
The foundation stone was laid amidst religious observances and blessings of the Maha Sangha.
The Rs. 60 million project will be handled by the Tri-Services until its completion.
Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva, Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, Air Force Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickramarathne, SLESA Secretary General Lt. Col. Ajith Siyambalapitiya (Retd) and SLESA staffers were present.
