Sri Lanka’s youth athletes who participated at the Commonwealth Youth Games held in Trinidad and Tobaggo won one silver medal and a bronze medal while two athletes finished in fourth place.
The silver medal was won by Ayomal Akalanka in the 400m hurdles in a time of 51.61 seconds. It was his second best performance in his career hailing from Ambagamuwa CC.
Nilupul Thejana from Dikwella Vijitha CC won the bronze medal in the high jump event. She cleared two metres at the meet.
Shalani Munasinghe from Ambagamuwa CC ran the 400m hurdles and Lesandu Arthavidu from DS Senanayake College who did the high jump, finished fourth in their respective events.
Munasinghe also took part in the long jump and cleared 5.65m to finish eighth overall.
Three boys and two girls represented Sri Lanka at the Games.
