Speedy project to beautify Colombo City

13 August, 2023

The project to make Colombo a beautiful and clean city has resumed under the supervision of the President’s Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayaka. Following complaints received by President Ranil Wickremesinghe that the activities of maintaining Colombo as a clean city, which were carried out under the Urban Development Authority and the Colombo Municipal Council, have now stopped, the President’s Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayake has intervened in this matter.

Last week, Ratnayaka summoned representatives of the Colombo Municipal Council, representatives of the Urban Development Authority and other institutions and held discussions in this connection.

Ratnayaka told them to take steps to maintain Colombo as a clean and beautiful city.

They were also told to keep urban parks and beaches clean and beautiful and to clean the canals in Colombo city and the Beira Lake.

He told them to plan this work in the first week and to procure the facilities in the second week and to start the work by the third week.

He also told the concerned officials that he is paying close attention to ensure that the work is done properly.
