Finalise Aswesuma bank account opening process by weekend to pay benefits - PM

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena instructed officers to finalise the Aswesuma bank account opening process for the payment of social welfare benefits by this weekend and take immediate action to disburse payments to the beneficiaries.

Issues regarding the Aswasuma programme and the problems related to particular area were discussed at the Maharagama Divisional Co-ordination Committee meeting which was chaired by the Prime Minister on at the Maharagama Divisional Secretariat Auditorium yesterday (27).

At the same time it was emphasized that bank accounts should be opened immediately for those who have not opened bank accounts for the payment of social welfare benefits.

Even the issue regarding the closure of Hospital ward for Bhikkus at Apeksha Hospital was discussed and it was revealed that estimates are being prepared to renovate it completely. The Police was blamed for increasing drug use and theft in the Maharagama area. The Prime Minister advised the police to find solutions to these issues together with public organizations.

Furthermore, the officials have pointed out that the 50% of the work for removal of water weeds from the Boralasgamuwa Lake has been completed. The Prime Minister said that the work should be completed within the scheduled time. Special attention was focused to the harvesting of fallow fields in the area. Ven.Nikapotha Chandrajothi Thera, Chairman of Maharagama Shasanarakshaka Bala Mandala, Isura Devapriya, former Chief Minister of Western Province, Upali Kodikara, former Provincial Council Minister, Salochana Gamage, former Member of Provincial Council, Colombo District Secretary K.G. Wijesiri, Maharagama Divisional Secretary Dilrukshi Walpola and other Government officials participated in this event.
