Sakwithi Ranasinghe and his wife pleaded guilty before the Colombo High Court to the charge of running a financial institution and misappropriating an amount of 164,185,000 rupees.
The amended charge sheet presented by the Attorney General was read today (19th July) in front of Colombo High Court Judge Mr. Aditya Patabandige.
Accordingly, the defendants informed the court that they would plead guilty to the relevant charges.
After that, the defendants agreed before the court to pay the relevant amount in twenty monthly instalments of 50 lakh rupees each.
Accordingly, the defense lawyers stated before the court that the first instalment will be paid today.
The Attorney General had submitted an amended charge sheet against the defendants for misappropriating an amount of Rs. 164,185,000 that had been deposited as Sakwithi Construction Company in Nugegoda area between January 1st, 2006 and September 3rd, 2008.
