
On Monday (17 th July), Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged in a telephone conversation
with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, discussing the current economic situation of both
nations, as stated in an official statement.
Expressing gratitude, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked President Wickremesinghe for Sri Lanka's
assistance to Pakistan in entering into a staff level agreement with the International Monetary Fund
(IMF).
Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended Sri Lanka for its efforts in promoting regional
peace and development. He expressed hope that both Pakistan and Sri Lanka would swiftly overcome
their economic crises, according to the press release.
In response, President Wickremesinghe congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on reaching a staff-
level agreement with the IMF. He also expressed gratitude for the prime minister's well wishes for Sri
Lanka.
