The prestigious golf tournament for the Burdett Trophy between the two oldest golf clubs in Sri Lanka, the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) and the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) is set to Tee off on July 22 at the RCGC course.
It is the second oldest golfing competition in the world and will bring together the members of the two clubs for a highly anticipated competitive golfing day according to the organizers marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the participating clubs on July 6.
This is the 120th edition of the Burdett Trophy for men and the 88th Puffin Cup for women that will be contested simultaneously on this day.
The Burdett Trophy competition will be in the format of four foursome team events and eight singles matches where an overall point tally of 6.5 points will decide the winning team.
Dr. Rohitha Silva will lead the RCGC team while Sudath Kumar will captain NEGC in the men’s competition.
In the Puffin Cup which originated in 1936, Ahalya Rajan will lead NEGC and Manori Jayakody the RCGC team.
The Puffin Cup will feature four foursome matches and four single matches, adding an exciting dimension to the competition.
Concurrent to the tournaments, the Masters Golf Tournament and the 125th Anniversary competition will also tee off at the RCGC course, further enhancing the grandeur and camaraderie between these two prestigious clubs at this year’s much anticipated golfing extravaganza according to officials. (TBR)
