Green light for Sri Lanka and India passenger, cargo services via KKS port

Approval was granted for the commencement of a passenger and cargo service between Sri Lanka and India centered on the Kankesanthurai (KKS) Port was yesterday (10) under the chairmanship of the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva, at the Ministry of Ports, Navigation and Aviation Auditorium. The Minister further stated that after India gives permission for this project, it will be possible to transport passengers and goods within 6 months. The primary objectives of this project are to develop Jaffna city and Kankesanthurai Port.

Also, this will provide an opportunity for the people of Jaffna to limit the high amount of money they have to pay for pilgrimage and bringing goods to India and meet it at a minimum amount of Rs.30,000. It was also stated that about 100 kg can be transported in the transportation of goods through this.

It is also special that the local investor J. Deep of “Lanka Trade Market” invested for this project. Minister of State for Ports and Aviation Premalal Jayasekara, Ministry Secretary, Chairman of the Port Authority and other guests participated.
