Chamari crashes and Sri Lanka loses

9 July, 2023

New Zealand women defeated Sri Lanka women by five wickets in their first T20 international match played at the P. Sara Oval yesterday.

Sri Lanka’s skipper Chamiri Atapattu that critics say is a “one man show” just could not get going this time and was dismissed for a duck in the first delivery of the game. Thereafter Sri Lanka could only manage to score 106 runs for nine wickets in their 20 overs.

The second wicket pair of Vishmi Gunaratne and Anushka Sanjeewani put on 37 runs before Gunaratne was dismissed for 26 with five boundaries in 28 deliveries.

In reply, New Zealand too got off to a poor start losing their first wicket for just seven runs on the board, but the second wicket pair of Suzie Bates and Amelia Kerr put on 58 runs before Kerr was sent back for a quick 34 runs with five boundaries having faced just 28 deliveries.

Suzie Bates played with caution to score 44 runs off 47 deliveries and hit only three boundaries.
