
Former Nepal Prime Minister and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar said Buddhist countries should introduce flights to the Lumbini International Airport to facilitate pilgrims visiting the Buddhist place of worship.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at Temple Trees on Wednesday (July 5) Madhav Kumar said direct flights already operate from Kathmandu to Colombo and hence the Sri Lankan authorities could extend it from Lumbini to Colombo as well to facilitate large number of tourists and pilgrims visiting the birthplace of the Buddha.
Madhav Kumar, who is the chairman of the ruling coalition in Nepal, discussed with Prime Minister Gunawardena about extending bilateral cooperation to new areas such as agriculture and sharing each other’s expertise industries and hydroelectricity.
He was in Sri Lanka to attend the conference organised to mark the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka.
MP Yadamini Gunawardena and Nepal Ambassador Bashu Dev Mishra were also present.
