Colombo High Court has granted bail to comedian Natasha Edirisooriya. The decision was given following a petition filed on behalf of Edirisooriya and was heard by Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi today afternoon.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General did not raise any objections against granting bail to Edirisooriya during the High Court case.
It should be noted that, earlier today, Colombo Magistrate refused to grant bail to Natasha and extended her remand order till 12 July. She has been in remand custody for over a month now since her arrest over controversial statements made regarding Buddhism during a comedy skit. It seems that the decision by the Colombo Magistrate to grant bail on several occasions have finally been overruled by the High Court today (05 June).
Furthermore, Bruno Divakara, the owner of the YouTube channel ‘SL VLOG’ on which Natasha’s video was posted was also arrested on 31 May has been released on bail.
