We had a chat with an upcoming, talented musician, Tharindu Perera and his journey in the music world.

Here’s what we found out:

Q: How did you get into music and why is it important to you?

A: I always wanted to be a musician since childhood. I was especially interested in drums, percussion and singing, so I got involved in it whenever I got the time. Eventually myself and a few of my friends created a small band called ‘Star Flowers’, this was the beginning of my music career for me. And in the year 2000 I joined the band ‘Seac’, owned by Saman de Silva.

Music is more important to me because I decided to pursue a career with my passion and I believe it is the best decision I have made in my life.

Q: What do you think about the Sri Lankan music scene?

A: I am so impressed with the current situation of the music industry in Sri Lanka, everything is moving with the technology and everyone is doing their best, so the competition is very high, which makes us all better. It is truly a great time to be in the music scene in Sri Lanka right now.

Q: What is your biggest dream as a musician?

A: I do not exactly have any dreams about the future but I have always tried to produce quality work for my fans and it will be a slow journey, but a good one.

Q: Tell us about your upcoming tour?

A: There are many upcoming tours this month, and in October and December. I am joining those tours as a percussionist. I am very excited about this journey of my life and I believe it will be a wonderful experience.

Q: Tell us about your new single?

A: I have in fact completed a few new singles and the first one was called ‘Hagum Awussa’. This was released to the radio channels. The visual has also been done and I hope to release the visual within a month. There is another song that is currently in the works and it will be released by the end of this year.

Q: What are you up to this year?

A: Besides the upcoming tours, there will be an indoor show of our band ‘Citycreek’ in Piliyandala and these days I am busy with the practice sessions and there are also some upcoming wedding music arrangements and commercial jingles in the line-up, I have also been invited to join as a background singer in a new film. Basically this year will be a busy year for me.
