Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara said nearly 1.2 million job permits have been received by Sri Lanka from 41 countries.
Therefore, Sri Lankan youth should be well trained for skilled job opportunities and the Foreign Employment Ministry is now planning to introduce a job training program for unemployed youth who are keen in going abroad for overseas jobs. The Minister said, “Our country is bankrupt to a considerable extent now. It is an open secret. This unfavourable trend can be overcome easily within several years if our unemployed youth are trained properly in different skilled vocations that have a demand in foreign countries.”
All these job opportunities need language abilities of the job seekers and vocational training skills. The Foreign Employment Ministry is providing all facilities to those who are interested in obtaining these overseas job opportunities, he said.
The Ministries would also be called upon to assist the training programs of unemployed youth and Rs. 226 million would be allocated for the purpose.
State and private sector firms will help make this effort a success. All of us should help save our country to settle the foreign loans, the Minister added.
