Senior Prof. Manjula Fernando assumed duties as the new Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) on June 23. Senior Prof. Fernando said that as a member of a Commission, he understands the collective responsibility of the Commission and works collectively to make optimal decisions on behalf of the people.
The appointment of Prof. Fernando was approved by the Constitutional Council on June 23. The post fell vacant after former PUCSL chairman Janaka Rathanayake was ousted after a resolution was debated and passed in Parliament in May.
