Russian pilot in fatal fall at Katunayake

The body of co-pilot Dovegalenko Valeri (64) of Aeroflot, who reportedly died on Thursday (15) after falling into a drain at the luxury resort near the airport where he was staying, is still lying at the Negombo General Hospital mortuary without an autopsy.

The Russian co-pilot was supposed to take off for Moscow the following day from the Bandaranaike International Airport at 12.30 p.m.

Hospital sources said the body is held without a post-mortem examination until his family members or next of kin arrive to claim it. They had not yet arrived to claim his body, police said.

According to reports, Valeri had died after falling into a drain in the hotel around 10 p.m. on Thursday. A police team had taken him to the Negombo General Hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead. Katunayake Police are investigating.
