Orugodawatta-Ambatale road repairs to be completed within three months

18 June, 2023

President Ranil Wickremesinghe directed officials to expedite the repair work on the 7.7 km Orugodawatta–Ambatale Road, also known as the Low-Level Road, and complete it within three months during a progress discussion at the Presidential Secretariat on Friday.

The project is implemented by the Road Development Authority (RDA) with Gulf Fund aid. As of May 2023, the physical progress of the first phase of construction is at 85 percent, while the second phase stands at 80 percent.

The project, which commenced in January 2016, was originally scheduled for completion in 2020. However, due to challenges faced by the contractors, issues related to compensation for relocation and complications arising from water pipes along the road the project experienced significant delays.

Ministers Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, Jeevan Thondaman, and SJB Member of Parliament S.M. Marikkar, as well as President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake, President’s Senior Adviser on Economic Affairs Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Highways Priyantha Mayadunna and representatives from the contracting company attended the discussion.
