The National Flag of any country symbolises the identity of that nation. Therefore, people of that nation always pay their respects to their National Flag.
The Lion Flag is our National Flag. There are four colours on it. They are red, green, yellow and orange.
The crimson colour represents the majority Sinhala community and the orange colour the Tamil community.
The green colour in the flag represents the Muslim community.
There is also a lion holding a sword in its right paw which represents bravery and strength. The sword symbolises justice as well. There are also four Bo leaves which show the four Noble Truths of Buddhism.
The National Flag is hoisted on all special occasions of the nation such as Independence Day.
It is our duty to stand to attention and pay homage to the National Flag when it is hoisted.
A salutation to the National Flag is a salutation to the entire nation.
