Today, June 18 is Father’s Day
Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June and it is a day for celebrating and honouring fathers.
The origin of Father’s Day is credited to Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, USA.
Sonora’s father, an American Civil War veteran brought up Sonora and her five siblings after the death of their mother.
The idea of celebrating Father’s Day had come to Sonora Doss while she was listening to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909. Local religious leaders supported Sonora and the first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910 the month of Sonra’s father’s birthday.
