SLPP National Organizer and former Minister Basil Rajapaksa apprised President Ranil Wickremesinghe that his Party will continue to support the President to successfully carry forward his programme of building the country.
Former Minister Rajapaksa said that the SLPP as the leading party of the government will continue to provide the support it has given so far in order to successfully carry forward the President’s programme of building country. Rajapaksa has said that the Podujana Peramuna party, including himself, has worked with several Presidents in recent history and based on that experience, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has an organized and active staff that no other President has had so far.
The former Minister has made these remarks at a meeting with the Party leaders of the ruling coalition at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday.
The meeting was held under the patronage of the President with the participation of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, SLPP General Secretary MP Sagara Kariyawasam, Ministers Douglous Devananda, Jeevan Thondaman and MPs Vajira Abeywardena and A.L.M.Athaullah.
SLPP National Organizer Basil Rajapaksa has further said that some trade unions belonging to his party and some politicians at regional level are commenting on the policies of the government from a point of contradiction. However he insisted that none of those problems are serious enough to stop supporting the program to build the country .
He has also said that any problem that arises in working together can be solved through negotiation and for that purpose it is important to meet with the President for at least one day in a month. The former Minister has commended the services of Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake and Chief of Presidential Staff Sagala Ratnayake.
“It is really easy to work with Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake and Sagala Ratnayake as the Chief of Staff of the President. They are ready for discussion and listening at any time. Many people do not even get a chance to make a phone call when they get these positions. But both of them do not suffer from that weakness. They need to be commended on that,” Rajapaksa said.
He also requested to maintain that important quality. “But our Prime Minister seems to be a bit busy and it is difficult to reach him on the phone. But the President is not like that. No matter how busy the President is, he always responds to a call the moment he receives it. Doing something like that as a President deserves special recognition.
He said that his party will continue to support it without any shortage and the constituent parties in the SLPP are also on the same view.
He added that a discussion with the President at least once a month will help resolve objections raised by trade unions and politicians at regional level. Also, we can present our suggestions for the ongoing activities,”Rajapaksa said.
SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said that the decision taken by the SLPP to support the President’s programme remains unchanged.
