
Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said that there will be no cancellation of licences issued to media organizations under the Broadcasting Authority Act. The Minister stated that no such clause is mentioned in the Act. He was answering a question raised by a journalist at the press briefing to announce Cabinet decisions at the Government Information Department yesterday.
He stated that there is no need for him or the President to suppress the media and that necessary regulations should be established to create a culture of advanced media in the country and for that an internationally standard procedure should be followed.
