Electricity tariff revision to be announced on June 30 - PUCSL

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) stated that the new electricity tariff revision, which will be effective from July 1, will be announced on June 30.

The PUCSL has published the proposal submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board on how the electricity tariff will be reduced by the revision of the electricity charges to be carried out next July.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka’s response to the proposed tariff revision presented by CEB has been made public on 1st July for the public to know.

According to the proposal submitted by the Ceylon Electricity Board, the electricity bill of the consumers consuming the category of 0 to 30 units will be reduced by 26.9 percent while 10.8 percent will be reduced from the bill of consumers who consume between 31 to 60 units and 7.2 percent will be reduced from the electricity bill of consumers who consume between 61 to 90 units.

The reduction in the electricity bill in the category of 91 to 180 units will be 3.4 percent and the electricity bill of customers with more than 180 units will be reduced by 1.3 percent.

According to the electricity tariff revision proposed by the Ceylon Electricity Board, the reduction in tariff of religious places and charitable institutions is 3.2 percent. The decrease in the electricity bill in the hotel sector is 12.6 percent. There will be no change in the electricity bill of the industrial sector, public category, street lights and government institutions category.

The PUCSL stated that the public can submit their comments and suggestions in writing until June 20 and also have the opportunity to make oral comments regarding the tariff revision.
