French Spring Festival from June 24 to July 9

11 June, 2023

One of the biggest cultural festivals in Sri Lanka, the French Spring Festival will be back this year between June 24 and July 13. For its 11th edition, the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and the Maldives and the network of Alliances Françaises in Sri Lanka and Maldives announce the come-back of a full-fledged format since 2019.

The French Spring Festival 2023 will take place marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and France, celebrating the longstanding friendship between France and Sri Lanka through arts. The festival will showcase the diversity of our artistic collaborations and celebrate the encounters between Sri Lankan creation and French culture.

For one month, the French Spring Festival will invite its audience to jump into a multidisciplinary program made up of visual arts, music and cinema. All the events will be free.

• June 24 – Fête de la Musique / International Music Day. A whole day dedicated to French and Sri Lankan music with a program in two stages: an open mic at the Alliance française in the afternoon and a live music concert at the Sri Lankan Foundation Institute in the evening, with Sri Lankan bands and a French singer specially invited for the occasion: Léa PACI.

• July 5 – Celebrate!, a photographic exhibition. The works of the winners of the photography contest will be presented at the Alliance française of Kotte in Colombo. The photographers will share their vision of the theme chosen for the contest. The exhibition will then be presented in the Alliances françaises of Matara and Kandy.

• From July 6 to 9 - French Film Festival. The National Film Corporation will screen six French movies, from comedy and thriller to documentary and animated movies. One of the flagship movies is the talented director Cédric Klapish’s new movie En Corps (Rise), released in March 2022, a heart-warming and inspiring story that tells us about resilience and healing.
