Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera announced that CPC and CPTSL has been instructed to continue fuel deliveries in the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) amidst the Poya day to supply sufficient fuel stocks to all fuel stations.
This is contrary to the policy followed during the last 4 months where fuel deliveries on public holidays and Sundays were suspended as a cost cutting mechanism. This decision was taken in light of the temporary fuel shortage in fuel stations across the country due to the fuel price reduction.
Minister has stated that the shortage is not due to lack of fuel stocks but due to non placement of orders by fuel stations from last Saturday anticipating a price reduction and not maintaining minimum stocks required. Coupled with the immediate increase in demand by consumers after the price revision has lead to a temporary fuel shortage in fuel stations.
