“Youth should be guided on a positive path”

28 May, 2023

The country’s younger generation has to be directed towards a positive and productive future path with a meaningful vision since the present youth generation seems to be misdirected to a certain extent by opportunistic anti-social political elements.

On the directive of Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, the relevant procedures are now being discussed by the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) to seek proper measures to fulfill this task, Kurunegala District Regional Director of Youth Affairs W.A. Wasantha Fernando said.

Speaking at a recent meeting of youth club members in the Kurunegala District, he said deserving positions should be made available for the qualified youths irrespective of politics.

Youth and their vigour should not be misused by politicians and those unhealthy and negative attitudes have to be done away with, since such trends are active in the country at present. Youth should be allowed to think independently without being forced or depending unnecessarily on misguided political elements that have sinister motives.

Fernando said taking these issues into account, a well designed leadership training program with the establishment of an academy of good politics for the younger generation of the country will start soon under the purview of the NYSC.

At the first stage, nearly 1.5 million male and female youth members would be enrolled and they will be trained for the benefit of the country. This new concept of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will pave the way for the future success and betterment of the youth.

More vocational training programs for the unemployed youth are also to commence this year at a cost of Rs.156 million by the Youth Affairs Ministry to attract them towards foreign job opportunities that demand skilled workers and technicians, said.
