Minister of Power and Energy KanchanaWijesekera has announced that two units of the UmaOya hydro Power plant will be added to the country’s power grid this year.
According to the Minister, Dr Ali Vakili, Managing Director of Farab, Project Manger of Uma Oya& representatives of Farab visited the Ministry of Power & Energy yesterday (18 May) and informed the Minister of the good news.
Farab, the Construction company of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Irrigation Facility has conveyed that unit 1 of Uma Oya Hydro Power Plant will be available for power generation to CEB from August 2023 & unit 2 by September 2023. Upon completion a 120MW hydro Power plant will be added to the Nations grid.
The meeting which took place at the Ministry of Power and Energy was participated by several officials of the CEB, Ministry and Irrigations Department.
