
President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday told the university lecturers that the government will consider financial concessions requested by them after domestic debt restructuring programme completes.
The President held a discussion with the representatives of the Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) yesterday.
The President stated that the government will be able to consider the financial concessions and privileges requested by the university lecturers after the domestic debt restructuring programme is successfully completed by September and the country’s economy is stabilised, the Presidential Media Division said.
Meanwhile FUTA representatives who participated in the discussion told the media that President accepted the fact that the university academia is facing many constraints due to the economic crisis in the country.
They said that the discussion with President ended on positive note.They said it was transpired at the meeting that there is no solution for the tax issue faced by them until the first review of the IMF takes place at the end of the year.
“The President however gave instructions to the officials concerned to find out the possibility of giving some sort of relief to us,” they said.
