National War Heroes’ commemoration to be held today

Arrangements have been made to hold the National War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony today to pay the nation’s tribute to the memory of fallen patriotic War Heroes of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police and Civil Security Department (CSD) today at Battaramulla National War Heroes’ Monument under the patronage of Commander-in-Chief, President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The 14th National War Heroes’ Day commemoration ceremony, organised by the RanaViru Seva Authority (RVSA) adhering to health guidelines begins today at 4 p.m.

after the arrival of President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Chief Guest at the national event, preceded by Prime Minister and other distinguished invitees in succession.

On that occasion, the Prime Minister, former Presidents, Speaker, Members of Parliament, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, Field Marshal MP Sarath Fonseka, President’s Senior Adviser on National Security and Chief of the Presidential Staff Sagala Ratnayake, Defense Secretary General (Retired) Kamal Gunaratne, Secretary to the President, Secretary to the Prime Minister, Chief of Defense Staff including Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders, Inspector General of Police including Chiefs of Security and former Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders will also be invited to participate in this war heroes celebration.

In addition, war heroes who were injured in the war, the relatives of the fallen war heroes as well as school cadet groups, will also be invited to participate in this war hero commemoration ceremony.

This national ceremony will be adorned with a special war drum beat and floral tributes to appreciate the bravery, heroism and eternal memories of the war heroes of the Army, Air and Navy, Police and Civil Defence Department who laid down their lives to secure the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
