President Ranil Wickremesinghe has ordered an immediate investigation into a statement made by Pastor Jerome Fernando that could cause harm to religious harmony. As irresponsible statements may create religious conflicts and affect the country’s harmony. Therefore, the President has informed relevant authorities to carry out a comprehensive investigation on the Pastor’s statement and report to him.
The President had directed the Presidential Adviser on National Security and President’s Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayake, to order an investigation on the above matter.
Sagala Ratnayake has informed the Criminal Investigation Department to immediately start an investigation as per the President’s order regarding the pastor’s statement.
The media had reported that a pastor named Jerome Fernando had made a statement that insulted the Buddha.
