Unit 3 of Norochcholai Power plant will temporarily suspend its operations for maintenance from 13 June onwards for a period of 100 days. This major maintenance work was pre-scheduled for smooth operation of the plant.
Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has assured that this will not lead to power cuts as Power generation will be supplemented via thermal power plants.
Minister has further stated that full coal requirements for CEB this season has been met with the 30th April coal cargo being unloaded at Norochcholai. Therefore, contrary to speculations by CEB unions there will be no power cuts.
