
A group of International Monetary Fund (IMF) representatives visited Galle Fort yesterday (14 May).
Team of IMF staff members are currently in Sri Lanka for a visit till 23rd May to assist Sri Lanka in preparation for the first review of the Extended Fund Facility in September this year (2023). The IMF representatives visited the Galle Fort both to enjoy the Fort and also to observe the Fort as a tourism development site which facilitate tourism into the country.
About 15 people including the foreign delegation and Sri Lankan representatives participated in this tour.
Dr. Nilan Kure, Chairman of Galle Heritage Foundation, said that they visited the Galle Fort for almost two hours and expressed their appreciation for the steps taken to develop the tourism industry in Galle and how it is being restored.
IMF delegation has expressed their appreciation to the current tourism development projects in place and also paid attention to the tourism promotion projects that should take place in the future.
