
Police investigating into the death of the 16 year old schoolgirl in Kalutara yesterday recorded a lengthy statement from a tuition master as she had taken the last call to him while staying in the hotel.
The investigators also started a comprehensive investigation into individuals whom she contacted and those who phoned her by analyzing her phone details.
A senior police officer said that more details regarding the victim and her connections were unearthed following the questioning of the tuition master. Meanwhile, the Kalutara Court yesterday granted permission to the Kalutara South Police to detain the 29-year-old man who is the main suspect arrested in connection with the death of a schoolgirl who fell from a five-storey lodge for 48 hours. The Magistrate made this order after the suspect was produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court yesterday (10). A 16-year-old schoolgirl died after falling from the fifth floor of a Kalutara lodge on Friday night.
Police investigated the incident and arrested three including a 19-year-old girl in relation to the incident. Then the main suspect who was avoiding the police was arrested in Hikkaduwa area in the morning, on Tuesday (9).
The suspect had confessed that the girl had jumped from the lodge window after receiving a phone call. However, police stated that further investigations are required to confirm the truth of the statements made by the suspect, so he was produced at the Kalutara court yesterday and arrangements were made to obtain detention orders.
A high-ranking police officer said that necessary action to check the mobile phone data of the deceased student are currently being carried out.
