Main suspect in Kalutara girl’s murder arrested in Hikkaduwa
Planned to flee country by boat after arranging hired car
She jumped outside after she got a call from outsider
Her friend’s boyfriend had introduced her to suspect
“We were both in the room together. She was staying with me willingly. After some time she got a call and after that she started shouting don’t do dirty things, how can I face the society now. Suddenly, she climbed on a chair near the window and jumped out of the window” the main suspect in the controversial death of a 16-year-old student from Kalutara told police yesterday.
Police say that it appears this student named Vihara Nirmani was brought to the hotel with a plan and that in the morning of her death, the main suspect and his friend had gone to her house in Kalutara Nagoda to see whether her appearance was to the liking of the main suspect.
“The main suspect’s friend is having an affair with a 19-year-old girl named Pabara, who lives near the 16-year-old girl’s house. Investigation revealed that this couple was going to hotels. This couple had decided to meet on May 6. The boyfriend of the 19-year-old girl had told the main suspect that there is another nice girl, let’s invite her too. According to the main suspect, he did not like it at first. The main suspect had told his friend he wanted to see her. Accordingly, the two friends came in a car and had gone after seeing the girl. Both of them had come to the house of the 19-year-old girl. The 16 year old girl was brought out of her house and shown to the main suspect by this 19 year old girl,” a senior police officer said.
The police say that investigations have shown that the 16-year-old student went to the Kalutara Hotel of her own free will.”It was the 19-year-old girl who showed the hotel an older ID card saying it was the ID of the 16-year-old student,” official said.
Police say that they booked a room on the fifth floor of the hotel and after drinking alcohol the 19-year-old girl and her boyfriend had gone to another room. The police say that the investigations have shown that the two were willingly in the room, and she was not raped by the main suspect. The police say that this has been confirmed in the interrogation of the suspect as well as in the post-mortem examination of her death. However, the police say that although she was not raped that day, she has had sexual relationships before.
During the questioning of the main suspect, it has been revealed although he wanted to have a closer contact with her sexually he could not do so due to a physical disability. Investigating officers too have observed this fact while inspecting the room. The suspect has said that the two were only kissing each other in the room and nothing more happened. The main suspect has said during the police questioning that the two started drinking again after a while.
The police say that it was revealed after questioning the suspect that he had tried to have sex with her after alcohol, but that too failed.
