Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said that no decision has been taken so far that is detrimental to the deposits of depositors in this country yesterday.
Minister Gunawardena made the announcement at the Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department.
The Minister mentioned here that last week, officials including the Finance Ministry Secretary and Central Bank of Sri Lanka officials gave some clarifications to the Cabinet regarding debt restructuring and that there is a much more serious national crisis in this country than the fanciful claims made by some groups.The Minister emphasized that the foreign debt to be paid internationally should be restructured first. The Minister mentioned here that while working on the restructuring of foreign debts due internationally, as well as avoiding lawsuits by the creditors, they have sought the expert assistance of the Lazard Company in France.
He added that while a technical team is conducting a continuous dialogue to resolve this national debt crisis, optimistically, many creditors have responded positively regarding debt restructuring.
